The disadvantage is that the higher carbohydrate concentration may slow down the absorption of water. They are more suited for circumstances where the need for higher fluid intakes isn?t as critical. For example, an endurance event in a more temperate climate would be a good time to use an energy drink.

Recovery Drinks

Recovery drinks supply the muscles with water, carbohydrate and protein. Good examples of these drinks will contain electrolyte minerals, vitamins, amino acids and additional nutrients for better recovery. In addition to the drink, you should maintain a high water intake.

Our final thoughts are to look around to find a sports drink that contains as many nutrients and natural sugars (saccharides) as possible.

If you suffer cramps regularly, then the addition of a multi-nutrient sports drink will b a definite advantage. Just remember, the higher the glucose content, the more fluid you should drink.

What I do for 3 hour plus events is alternate a bottle of sports drink (say 500ml) with a bottle of water every hour. However we all have different needs when it comes to hydration and that is a whole new topic I?ll take on in another article.

THE family of a young woman who died just over a year after her fairytale wedding are keeping her memory alive with a series of charity golf days.

Natalie Holland was diagnosed with cervical s disease a little over a year later in 2007.

But her family have been determined to keep a promise they kept to the 26-year-old and have so far managed to raise over Pounds 40,000 for various charities. s

Natalie worked as a speech therapist at Weston Hospital and her family is well known in North Somerset. Her parents John, 58, and Vanessa Webb, 56, run Setter & Lee estate agents in Wrington. They organise the annual charity event along with their son James and son- in-law Mark Mrs Webb said: “This is the fourth year we will be holding a charity day and the money goes to a number of charities including the Weston Hospicecare.

“Natalie wanted to give something back to the people who looked after her and she made us promise we would do this each year.

And I do mean scarlet. It was unreal.

I started to marvel again at the never-ceasing creativity of God as Mother Nature. Every sunset, every snowflake, every tree, every person, is completely different, yet the system is always the same.

The sun rises, the sun sets. Every single day. And yet, it manages to be completely different every single time.

I sit in awe.

I learn to welcome change. In all it’s glory. I learn to cultivate systems and orderliness. There’s a structure to my life, but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring or repetitious. It’s what I do within the structure that fills my life with color and beauty.
